Utah Beach

1. 2nd French Armoured Division Landing Monument

This is a monument to General Leclerc’s 2e Division Blindée (2e DB) (2nd Armoured Division) of the Free French Army. They landed on this stretch of Utah beach on August 1, 1944 as part of XV Corps of Lieutenant General George S Patton’s Third Army. Later that month, 2e DB participated in the Battle of the Falaise Pocket, which inflicted a major defeat on the German Army. Adjacent to the monument is a Sherman tank, a Greyhound M8 armoured car and a M3 half-track in Ffimarkings.
