Blind White Fish in Persia was originally published in 1953 by George Allen and Unwin.

In the last few years, the 1955-1956 Land Rover overland expedition from London to Singapore, known as the Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition, has become widely discussed, partly due to the recent repatriation of one of the expedition's vehicles from Ascension Island. Over the years, interest has been sustained by various editions of the erudite account of the trip entitled First Overland by Tim Slessor, whereas earlier expeditions are less well-known. One of these was the Oxford University expedition to Persia (now the Islamic Republic of Iran) in 1950, before the Land Rover's ubiquity.
