Amazing discoveries

Craig Moore reflects on some of the finds he has made while digging through archives

One of the most important rules to observe when working in an archive is to be quiet. However, there are occasions when you want to jump up and down, shout ‘Look at this! Look at this!’ and show others what you have discovered. This has happened to me on several occasions over the years. Many museum and archive staff members just do not realise what they are looking at and they often wrongly index the object or documents. For example, when I was in the University College London archives, a box indexed as ‘documents relating to the SNVP committee’, contained unpublished documents and photographs on the TOG 1 tank, TOG 2 tank and a new tank just called the ‘Amphibious’.
