Self-confessed motorbike fan, Chris Harris, details his discovery and restoration of a German DKW NZ350
While on a family holiday to Normandy in 2015 we stayed at a friend’s cottage in Saint Marcouf. It was just a mile inland from Utah Beach and we visited Boutique du Holdy, a militaria emporium in Ste Marie du Mont.
In the rear annexe was a bike, a German sidecar outfit to be precise. Not one of the massive shaft-drive Zundapps or BMWs, but a diminutive DKW version I had not seen before. As a bike fan, I was enamoured, and the price was good too, especially when the exchange rate was 1.36 euros for one British pound.
