The Austin Motor Company was one of the world’s foremost motor manufacturers, creating iconic vehicles such as the Austin Seven, the Mini and to a lesser degree, the Austin Allegro. The company’s record in car manufacture speaks for itself and there are plenty of us who can say ‘I learnt to drive in an Austin’ or ‘my first car was an Austin’. However, many people may be surprised to learn about the company’s incredible and varied output in the two world wars.
