Callum Dickson tries out one of the strangest yet most powerful vehicles in War Thunder, the FV4005
In a stroke of fate, it seems the tank I had recently unlocked in my own free time was also one that is getting more recognition by the classic military vehicle community, the strange British FV4005. This tank represented the final step in the armoured communities’ obsession with bigger armaments, before the widespread adoption of more efficient missiles. Given my affinity for tank destroyers, I felt this was a great opportunity to try out the vehicle with the largest gun, on land that is, in the entirety of War Thunder.
Not-so-shockingly, the most immediate thing I noticed was the massive 183mm gun – which gives it a distinct advantage in some respects, so as soon as you enter a game you can immediately feel the power you wield. Given that this vehicle’s predecessor, the Avenger, has the classic QF17-pounder as its main armament – a gun that was almost half the size of the 183mm – it has been quite a drastic change of pace. When you enter any long area of sight, you can immediately open fire on enemies from almost any distance.
