Late February 2010, and a man lay in an intensive care unit bed in the military wing of the now closed Selly Oak Hospital, in Birmingham. Trooper Corie Mapp, a 31-year-old Household Cavalryman, married with three daughters, was gravely ill, suffering from severe trauma, an allergic reaction and a lifethreatening infection.
