BEFORE GEN HERBERT ‘Hawk’ Carlisle left office as the chief of Air Combat Command in March, he indicated that the US Air Force was looking for ways to fund the Lockheed U-2 past its 2019 out-of-service date, and possibly out as far as 2025. Carlisle said the USAF is trying to find the money to retain and upgrade the communications and sensors of the popular U-2.
