As the US Air Force looks to retain the Lockheed U-2 in service until 2025, Combat Aircraft meets the ‘Blackcats’ of the 5th Reconnaissance Squadron as they pass 40 years of operations over the Korean peninsula.

BEFORE GEN HERBERT ‘Hawk’ Carlisle left office as the chief of Air Combat Command in March, he indicated that the US Air Force was looking for ways to fund the Lockheed U-2 past its 2019 out-of-service date, and possibly out as far as 2025. Carlisle said the USAF is trying to find the money to retain and upgrade the communications and sensors of the popular U-2.
