Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown Medals Sold

A MEDAL group and a set of papers belonging to the late Eric Brown, legendary combat and test pilot, Fleet Air Arm extraordinaire and Boys Own adventurer, have been bought by the by the Fleet Air Arm museum, a spokesperson for parent institution The National Museum of the Royal Navy told Britain at War.

Calls for the medals to remain in the UK had been made by many, including Eachan Hardie, Brown’s pen pal. A ‘thrilled’ Hardie, 11, wrote to prominent individuals in the British aviation industry, requesting they club together to purchase the items. The museum thanked Hardie for his efforts.
