You’re never too old to enjoy a Jeep, writes Robert U’ren
Irecently sold a Jeep to an elderly gent who had an ex-World War Two Jeep when he was a young tearaway back in 1961.
David Lott is quite a character who now, more than 60 years on, is 81 and fancied owning a Jeep again. He told me all about his past and showed me some lovely old black and white pictures of him and his friends out ‘Jeeping’ in the early 1960s.
That’s what I love about my business, meeting interesting characters like David, who took quite a fancy to a Jeep I had for sale. However, as he’s not as young and flexible as he was back then, it was going to need some alterations so he could drive it.
David told me about his last Jeep back in the 60s that was purchased for £150. It was a blue and white ex-tow truck from a garage in Chiswick in London which he eventually sold as it was using a lot of oil. Apparently, during a day out to Brighton and back (50 miles each way) it smoked heavily.
David also owned a very smart BSA 350 Gold Star scrambler and one of the pictures shows it loaded into his jeep ready for a meeting (see picture 1). Another picture shows him changing a flat tyre on the Jeep after dropping into a deep…
