One of the rarest lorries of World War Two, this Austin K30 has been restored to an exemplary standard

Anyone with a passing interest in World War Two lorries will have heard of the Austin K2/Y, the heavy ambulance on which the British Army relied throughout the hostilities. It also has celebrity status as the vehicle Princess Elizabeth was trained to drive and maintain and is probably the best known British truck from World War Two. Virtually unknown is its sister truck, the 30cwt Austin K30, the civilian-derived military lorry on which the K2 was based. Most early examples were lost at Dunkirk and the stunningly restored example you see here is one of only three military Austin K30 trucks that are known to survive. Two discerning military vehicle enthusiasts, Yorkshire MVT’s Mike Humphreys and expert restorer Melvyn Bean had been looking for an interesting joint project and spotted this incredibly rare 1941 Austin K30 for sale on the club website.
