The fact that World War Two changed the world irrevocably is beyond debate simply because technology progressed enormously in every aspect of life. The Jeep’s genesis is just one example of that so it was inevitable that this vehicle would help shape the post-war era simply because of the plentiful supply of war surplus vehicles.
In the immediate post-war years these capable 4x4 vehicles offered new possibilities to those looking for excitement and a small group of adventurers took the military Jeep to their hearts. Their exploits produced a rash of travel books during the 1950s and examples include Africa in a Jeep by Joe Ceurvorst (Staples, 1956).
