Wynford Vaughan-Thomas CBE (1908-1987) was born in Swansea and subsequently studied at Exeter College, Oxford. He joined the BBC and gave the Welsh-language commentary on the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937. During World War Two, he gained a reputation as one of the BBC’s most distinguished war correspondents. He reported from the Lancaster, F for Freddy, bomber during a bombing raid over Berlin. Another notable report was from the Anzio beachhead (hear it here https://tinyurl.com/yau8bu7y) and it was a place that he revisited in 1961 with his first book Anzio. The hardback first edition was published by Longmans, Green & Co, it was followed by a Pen paperback edition in 1963 and then the pictured edition was published in 1968 to coincide with the launch of an American-Italian film about the battle.
