With recent news that an original CVRT Striker has been purchased by Eden Camp Modern History Museum, Neil Huband spoke to a veteran who served in one of the anti-tank vehicles, and to an enthusiast who carefully restored one

The Eden Camp Modern History Museum in Yorkshire has purchased one of the four original prototype Striker CVRTs, built to deploy the super accurate anti-tank Swingfire guided missile, first used in the 1990 Gulf War. The Striker, registered 03 SP 40, joins the unique collection of CVRT variants currently displayed at Eden Camp. Most of the CVRTs on view there saw action in the Falklands war, with one even being the first CVRT to shoot down an Argentine fighter jet. The Striker 03 SP 40 was formerly owned by a private collector and is in a fully restored working condition. Frank Wood, head of vehicle restoration at Eden Camp, said: “Its first civilian owner, Bill Bates, took great care over several years to bring the vehicle up to a top condition and to preserve its originality and, as a result of continuing excellent maintenance, it is still in remarkable condition today. “This vehicle is of great interest to us and, after all, Strikers played an important role in the fi…
