Deadly COMBAT

By October 1940 the Battle of Britain was reaching its conclusion with the majority of German bomber activity restricted to night-time operations. On 10 October, however, eleven Dornier 17s were sent in daylight to bomb the London Docks, but bad weather and defending Spitfires resulted in changes to Luftwaffe plans and in casualties on both sides as Andy Saunders records.

Dornier 17s of I/KG2 are readied for another sortie against British targets. The nearest aircraft is W.Nr 1201 of 4/KG2 which returned damaged on 10 October 1940.
