A DIAMOND in the Rough

Jason Jefferies first went to view his Diamond T lorry in 1986 with the intention of taking it home. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and he spent the next 15 years dreaming of it until he finally got his hands on the keys…

Military vehicle restoration specialist and all-round Americana enthusiast Jason Jefferies first spotted his 1943 Diamond T 981 parked outside Membury Motors in Shaftsbury, Dorset, in 1986. After enquiring about its availability, he was told it was still in use and not for sale. Over the following years, Jason lost touch with the lorry’s whereabouts, although he did not forget about it.

It was only in 2000 that he again came across the vehicle, this time parked outside Five Square Motors in Shaftesbury, looking in a poor state. It was clear the vehicle was no longer in use and a snow blade fitted to the front pointed to additional duties the heavy haulage truck had been subjected to by the owners. Jason decided to try his luck again and after making enquiries was told it was for sale. A deal was struck and for just £850 he was finally able to take the Diamond T home.
