Echoes of War 1945: The Forgotten Army

The original caption to this April 1945 photo reads: “Taung-Up, main Jap supply base for the Arakan, fell on April 6, 1945 to troops of the 26th Indian Division after their drive south along the enemy’s supply route from Taung-Up to Latpan. Lieutenant-General Slim’s British Fourteenth Army was often referred to as the ‘Forgotten Army’ because its operations in the Burma Campaign were overlooked by the geographically remote and Euro-centric press. After the war it remained less well known than the corresponding formations in Europe.
