Robert Gray was the sixth Canadian but only the second member of the Fleet Air Arm to receive the VC. He was also the final person to be awarded the medal during World War Two and the most recent aviator so decorated. This is how he carved his name into history
Robert Hampton ‘Hammy’ Gray was born in British Columbia, Canada on November 2, 1917 as the son of a jeweller and following his schooling he attended the University of British Columbia to study for an arts degree.
