GREAT WAR GALLANTRY May 1918

Throughout the First World War, the many announcements of British and Commonwealth gallantry awards appeared in the various issues of The London Gazette. As part of our major monthly series covering the period of the Great War commemorations, we examine some of the actions involved and summarise all of the awards announced in May 1918

Following the formation of the RAF on 1 April 1918, the issues of The London Gazette published in May 1918 contained announcements of some of the earliest gallantry awards made to its personnel. One of the names listed that month is that of Lieutenant (T./Captain) Christopher Joseph Quinton Brand MC.
