Corporal 20397 Arthur King was serving in the 5th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry when he was killed in action on 20 July 1918. Aged 23 at the time of his death, Arthur was a casualty of the last major German offensive on the Western Front in the First World War – the Second Battle of the Marne. During the battle and Allied counterattacks, the 5th KOYLI was part of the 62nd (2nd West Riding) Division.
