BAIV co-founder Ivo Rigter (Snr) gives some insight into the world of classic military vehicle collecting ahead of the inaugural Tracks and Trade event in May
The ‘hobby’ of collecting military heritage is as old as the military itself. In the earliest of days, soldiers brought home ‘trophies’ from their campaigns, a trend later followed by civilian collectors.
Through the ages, this developed into a huge market in which private collectors and museums started collecting treasures and mementoes from conflicts around the world. Many armies have also built up collections of abandoned military equipment.
Ivo Rigter (Snr) is the co-founder of Netherlands-based classic military vehicle restorer British American Infantry Vehicles (BAIV).
