On Her Majesty’s Command


The global gun salute to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was as grand as it was solemn. But why 41 rounds? And how was this tribute achieved? 

It is a sight and sound that is familiar to many across the Commonwealth – ceremonial guns with smartly dressed teams loosing off rounds with absolute precision. The Royal Gun Salute, with its booming blanks, is carried out as a symbol of respect, poignancy or welcome.
