Heroism in ‘D for Dog’

Leslie Manser sacrificed his own life to save those of his crew when their Manchester was hit during a ‘1,000 bomber’ raid on Cologne.

Although Leslie Thomas Manser was born in New Delhi, India on May 11, 1922 he moved back to Britain as a boy when his father’s employment as an engineer in the nation came to an end Determined to join up and ‘do his bit’ for the war effort, in 1940 he applied to join the RAF and was enlisted as a pilot trainee in August of the same year.
