Almost a century after the peak of the Industrial Revolution, Britain’s workers turned their hands to their greatest challenge yet: producing the weapons and equipment to defeat the greatest armed foe the nation had ever faced. Without their efforts and long hours at the workbench and lathe, Britain’s military would not have been able to vanquish the Axis powers. The enemy was defeated on the battlefield, but the war was won on the factory floor.
