Our hobby recently came under some unwanted scrutiny when two M8 Armoured Cars being transported from France to the UK were stopped on the road by customs in Holland.

This resulted in the seizure of the truck, trailer and load and the arrest of the driver. We understand that although the planned route was to cross the Channel at Calais after picking up the second M8 in northern France, the Dutch haulier decided to take his obligatory ‘weekend’ rest at home in Holland and then go back to Calais and onto the UK.

One M8 was a project, with its 37mm on a pallet, the other was a restored one with the gun in the turret. Both cannons were deactivated in France, and both had their French certificates from St Etienne which you would imagine were valid right across the EU.
