The restoration of the M44 self-propelled Howitzer was done for the National Museum of Military Vehicles in the US

In 1946-47 the US Army sought to replace the outdated 155m Howitzer M41 ‘Gorilla’ with a self-propelled howitzer that provided better protection for the crew. This led to the development of two vehicles: the T98 with a 105mm gun and the T99 with a 155mm gun. Both were based on the newly-built T41 light tanks, giving them increased battlefield mobility.
