When visiting the 2023 Wartime in the Vale show, Craig Moore met Albert Price, aged 98, who is believed to be the last known survivor of Exercise Smash in World War Two

Albert Price was a 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards tank gunner and was injured in Normandy during the attack on Cristot

At Wartime in the Vale 2023 at the Ashdown World War Two Camp in Worcester, a surviving Valentine and Sherman Duplex Drive tank crewman once again manned a Valentine DD tank as it was driven around the showground arena to thunderous applause. The man’s name is Albert Price, aged 98, and he is an ex-4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards tank gunner. He did more than a year’s training in Valentine DD tanks, including periods at Fritton, the Solent and the Moray Firth. As far as we know, Albert is the last survivor of Exercise Smash, held in 1944.
