US Marine Corps MV-22B (BuNo 168027) serving with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, came down off the coast of Okinawa, Japan on December 13. The Osprey had been conducting aerial refueling operations over the sea when the rotor blades struck the refueling line of a KC-130, damaging the aircraft. The pilot made the decision not to fly over Okinawan homes, instead trying to reach Camp Schwab and land in shallow water. All five crew members were rescued and transported to hospital by a US Air Force HH-60G of the 33rd Rescue Squadron.
