MASTER BUILDER

Crompton’s Column

Bruce Crompton discusses a company in Czechia that specialises in rebuilding engines from World War Two

Over many years of restoration of both Allied and Axis vehicles, people have always asked which specialists we use for engine rebuilds. Although our teams (Phil and Nick Rutherford and Brian and Allan Rutter) are very experienced with engine rebuilds, sometimes due to the restoration times involved we send out engines to specialist rebuild companies.

One we have used many times over the years is Armytech in Czechia. The company specialises in the restoration of German Axis engines. It has carried out many restorations with us and we’ve filmed at the premises near Prague for Combat Dealers.

Armytech works with museums and private collectors in the UK, US and across Europe and has a reputation as Maybach, Tiger, Panther and Jagdpanzer experts. The company has also worked on other historic engines including motorcycles, cars, tanks, aircraft and even steam engines.

During World War Two, Germany moved a lot of equipment and manufacturing facilities to the disputed “Sudetenland” and the “Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren” in what was then known as Czechoslovakia to avoid Allied bombings.
