BRITAIN’S MILITARY MUSEUMS
With arguably the richest military heritage in the world, a heritage spanning some nine centuries, it is hardly surprising that Britain has what can only be described as an unrivalled wealth of museums associated to its military past. These range from small private and local ventures, through to official regimental museums and national collections. It is certainly true to say that military history enthusiasts are almost spoilt for choice in terms of what is available for them to see. Visitors to the UK will also find, wherever they go, that they will never be very far from a military museum of some description or another. In all probability, and as a museum genre, it is very likely the most common type of museum to be found in the UK. That said, the rich diversity of subject matter and themes covered by these museums, both national and otherwise, ensures that visitors are most unlikely to find much repetition between venues.
