The world looked on as commemorations across the UK and France honoured the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy Landings.

The numerous ceremonies, commemorative events and celebrations served as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of Allied soldiers from multiple nations, eight decades ago. Whether parachuting behind enemy lines, serving aboard one of the countless warships, flying sorties high above, or storming one of the five beaches, the actions of these men ensured a decisive turn towards the liberation of Western Europe, and the end of Nazi tyranny on the continent.

Arranged by the UK Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion, the UK’s major commemorative event hosted multiple world leaders, many surviving D-Day veterans, and His Majesty The King at the new British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer, France.
