Vladimir Peniakoff’s pre-war experience in the desert led to the formation of his own raiding force using Jeeps and trucks

The smallest and arguably most colourful unit of Allied Special Forces in World War Two, ‘Popski’s Private Army’ roamed the deserts of North Africa on reconnaissance and raiding missions and later served in the Italian Campaign.
