RAF Museum Reopens After Major Refurbishment

THE FREE-to-enter RAF Museum London fully reopened to the public after two years of redevelopment on Armed Forces Day – June 30.

His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex had attended the site the previous day to meet museum staff, volunteers and partners who worked on and supported the transformation, and to unveil a commemorative plaque. Other VIPs joining Prince Edward at the ceremony included ACM Sir Stephen Hillier (RAF Chief of Air Staff), HE Mr Khaled Al-Duwaisan (Ambassador of Kuwait – the Gulf state being a major contributor of funds to the project) and Viscount Trenchard (grandson of the founding father of the RAF).

Speeches were made by the museum’s CEO Maggie Appleton; Sir Peter Luff, Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and Sir Roger Carr, Chairman of BAE Systems. Prince Edward then gave his congratulations to the team that had made the transformation possible. He also forwarded best wishes from his father, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, the museum’s patron, who has taken a keen interest in the museum from its earliest days.
