Recalling Days Gone

Military Vehicle Market

Nigel Hay recalls the earliest days of Milweb

Milweb was launched on the Internet on June 6, 1999. It was the right time to springboard the military vehicle market online and I am proud of Milweb’s part in this. CMV also started 25 years ago, with the then editor Pat Ware and myself touting for future business at the 1999 and 2000 Stoneleigh events.

The military vehicle market was very different then, not just regarding prices of vehicles and parts. Collectors had more choice across the spectrum of vehicles from World War Two until the late 1990s. Most of the World War Two vehicles that had been used in civvy streets were reaching their end of life and were easily affordable. As the new millennium dawned, we saw a surge in enthusiasm for German wartime material after collecting it had been almost a black art. If you bought a German vehicle even 20 years ago, it has become a stunning investment.
