Replica Jeeps

Robert U’Ren of Willys Jeep UK shares some of his helpful fixes and tips on buying, selling, repairing and recommissioning World War Two and Hotchkiss Jeeps

Graham has given his replica Jago jeep the rusty barn find look

Jim Dowdall’s recent column on replica military vehicles (CMV April 2024, Have your say) got me thinking about the many replica Jeeps and kit cars I have come across in my travels.

Some of the kit car Jeeps have been very cleverly formed and fashioned to resemble a World War Two Willys Jeep. They are like Marmite; some people like them and some don’t. My old friend Carol, for one, would like to see them all crushed because they don’t have any World War Two provenance. My own opinion is, not everyone can afford a wartime Jeep, so if you have a limited budget and would like a Jeep, then they are great fun and much more affordable. However, if you own one, be honest about it and don’t try to pass it off as something it isn’t.
