Being so close to the date when many veteran vehicle owners were planning to head across to Normandy for the 80th anniversary D-Day commemorations, there were early fears that this year’s Overlord Show at The Lawns, Denmead in Hampshire, might struggle to fill its renowned rows of wartime vehicle displays. Nothing could have been further from the truth. In the run-up to the May Bank Holiday weekend, regular convoys of Allied World War Two vehicles could be seen making their way down the country lanes to Denmead, which gave the brief impression of what it must have been like in 1944 if you happened to be driving behind a column of Jeeps or GMCs. Low-loaders delivered a series of tracked vehicles to The Lawns before the show’s opening on Saturday. All was set for what turned out to be one of the best events so far this year.
