Recently rediscovered photographs provide an intriguing snapshot of Britain’s early forays into modern rocket science... but can you help identify exactly what it is?

Senior picture researcher at independent picture library TopFoto, Christine Kendrick, was digitising more of the agency’s collection when she happened across an unusual trio of photographs.

Dated December 28, 1950, the images, two of which are shown here, picture a new rocket as it was unloaded by crane at the New Horticultural Hall, Westminster, London ahead of its first public showing at the 1951 Schoolboys' Own Exhibition where the rocket was the main attraction at the Ministry of Supply’s stand.
