Taking place over the weekend of May 18-19, 2024, the Saumur Tank Museum in France was host to an international model show. David Garden reports

Saumur Tank Museum is known worldwide to military vehicle enthusiasts and modellers alike. It houses a stunning collection of ex-military vehicles, mostly armoured, with the part of the collection open to the public housing in the region of 200 vehicles, although there are three times as many in the reserve collections, about a hundred of which are in full running condition. The museum has been a source of inspiration and research for model companies, writers and individuals for more than 40 years.

Every year on Whit Monday weekend, the museum hosts an international model competition. This is held in the exhibition halls, with model tables laid out in front of the regular displays. A large number of traders sell model kits, paints, glues and accessories, where a good rummage could unearth a bargain or rarity. Visitors and exhibitors come from all over Europe and further afield – this year there were a lot of Spanish and Belgian enthusiasts, as well as some from Poland and the Czech Republic.
