Callum Dickson trials a selection of French armoured vehicles in War Thunder
Having played with a lot of different nations’ vehicles in War Thunder, all of which had a profound influence on the future development of the armoured vehicle, I did not want to leave out the importance of French armoured development, given their substantial role in the creation of the tank.
Having not played with French vehicles for a while, there was immediately a noticeable step back in quality from other nations, so I had to get used to powering down roads at five miles per hour with only a 35mm gun for defence.
It was a very different feeling utilising these old heavy and medium tanks over the faster stronger vehicles I'm used to.
The vehicles I tried to operate were the AMR.35, SOMUA.35 and Renault.35, all of which were lighter tanks, but the aim was to unlock the Char D2.
In my first game, I was dropped into the desert. With sand dunes in front of me, I decided to simply power over them and head straight for the central point. However, even the small slopes I encountered initially caused me massive problems, with the engine of the S.35 really struggling to get me over the slope.
