A new memorial inspired by an iconic Battle of Britain photograph has been unveiled in Kent, writes Alex Bowers

One summer day, 82 years ago, a photographer visiting RAF Hawkinge at the height of the Battle of Britain snapped a series of shots that would become icons of that campaign: seven worn – but smiling – pilots resting between sorties on the grass before their aircraft.
