‘Staffordshire at War’Event Taking Shape

A SPECIAL ‘Staffordshire at War’event is set to take place at the Churnet Valley Railway near Stokeon- Trent on 24-27 May. The aim of the themed weekend is to give a taste of what the war years were like, not just in Britain, but also in occupied Europe. As visitors take their train journey along the line, each station will take on the identity of a different location with respective themed attractions at each site. Both Kingsley & Froghall and Consall stations will have an Allied atmosphere; the former is set to become an American base in the depths of preparation for the D-Day landings, complete with a ‘Spitfire’and a ‘captured Bf 109’, while Consall will depict a British forces headquarters in a village where troops are deployed on manoeuvres.

The other two stations along the line (Cheddleton and Leekbrook) will show what life was like in occupied France. Each station will have a variety of demonstrations and talks throughout the weekend plus will have a number of vehicles and equipment that was used during the Second World War on show.www.1940sbyrail.co.uk
