This classic book is a vivid account of fighting with the Commandos. Its author Peter Young joined 3 Commando, a battalion-sized Commando unit, in June 1940 and went into action with them in July of that year and relates a tale of adventure and heroism in this valuable narrative of the Commandos at war.
It describes key Commando raids against targets in occupied Europe including the amphibious operation in Norway’s the Lofoten islands and a further raid against Vaagso. Dieppe followed then Young’s men fought during the invasion of Sicily and in operations in Italy until being recalled for D-Day. Fighting in Normandy followed and the author recalls the operations that typified the liberation of France for the 1st Special Service Brigade to which 3 Commando was attached.
