When I first became interested in armoured vehicles, one of the earliest that fascinated me was the huge 155mm self-propelled gun M53 and its cousin the 8in self-propelled howitzer M55. Renwal did a kit of it in those days, which I remember building, but I only clapped eyes on a real one fairly recently at the Military Vehicle Technology Foundation, the late Jacques Littlefield’s impressive collection near San Francisco, and it did not disappoint.
