THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT
The Parachute Regiment includes some of the most highly trained and skilled soldiers in the British Army, but how does the training of today's recruits compare with their wartime forebears? Veteran paratrooper Craig Allen finds out
It was an incredible, perhaps unbelievable circumstance. Through August 2021, Britain evacuated more than 15,000 people from Afghanistan’s Kabul Airport as the countr y and its capital fell to the Taliban. In all, more than 120,000 people were lifted by aircraft from almost 40 nations.
However, this huge effort required security, and for Britain’s part, it was the swift response and deployment of the Parachute Regiment that facilitated a largely successful operation. The regiment’s ability to deploy rapidly in challenging environments was fully tested, as we saw played out nightly on TV.
