Mark Nash on the A34 Comet and its place in Irish history

The Republic of Ireland is a largely neutral country, staying out of most of the major conlicts that have taken place in the 20th Century. This is not to say that Ireland will not defend itself from aggressors if necessary.

The Irish Republic does have a military, known as The Republic of Ireland Defence Forces (Óglaigh na hÉireann). As part of the United Nations (UN), the Irish Military has taken part in a number of peace-keeping missions in places such as The Congo and Lebanon.
