Most have heard of the elite units of the commonwealth forces in World War Two. These include the Commandos, SAS, LRDG and SOE.There is another unit whose exploits are less well known but it played a vital role in the fight against Nazi Germany. In addition, it used a wide range of vehicles. This was the Reconnaissance Corps.

One aspect of the analysis of the performance of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in 1940 was that there were not enough cavalry regiments to provide reconnaissance for large formations.
