Russia’s defence chiefs are offering virtual tours of the Trefoil base. Known as their ‘Arctic Shamrock’ the Russian’s 14,000sqm complex on Alexandra Land is the world’s northern-most permanent building.
A Russian defence ministry spokesperson said: “With the help of the new web application, visitors to our website can interactively tour the base, which allows the Russian military to perform service and combat tasks in Arctic conditions”. The layout enables its inhabitants to move from one building to another without going outside to face winter temperatures that sometimes drop below -50 °C.
