Braving lashing rain and winds, Tom Baker travelled to Evesham to report on Wartime in the Vale 2024

One of Britain’s most celebrated living history and vehicle shows, Wartime in the Vale (WiTV), returned with a bang this year. Taking place over Father’s Day weekend on June 15-16, it was packed with hundreds of visitors, military vehicles, re-enactors and trade stands.

Not deterred by the atrocious ‘summer’ weather, I arrived at Ashdown Camp just as the gates opened on Saturday morning, excited at the prospect of the day's events. The showground was already buzzing with activity, with the familiar sound of roaring engines and animated conversations acting as a backdrop as I made my way down the event's main avenue.

As as one of the UK’s leading living history and military vehicle shows, Wartime in the Vale certainly wasn’t lacking in its range and scope. Various historical periods were represented in the form of both classic vehicles and re-enactment groups, depicting conflicts such as The Troubles in Northern Ireland, World War Two, the Cold War and Afghanistan and Iraq.
