CMV editor Andrew Stone chats to show organisers about the year ahead
Last February, we carried a comprehensive eight-page ‘Events Guide’ in the magazine showcasing some of the major military vehicle shows here in the UK and abroad.
Not long after the country, and most of the world went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. By the end of the year, only a few had taken place.
As I write in late January, the UK is in another lockdown. However, there is hope with the coronavirus vaccination program underway and we remain optimistic the situation will improve and that many of the events – particularly those in the second half of the year – will go ahead.
Questions remain though. What about those in May, June and July? Will enough vaccinations have been given by then to ensure the safety of large numbers of people? Already some shows have been postponed for later in the year. The government has also indicated that ‘a phased-in approach’ will be adopted to opening the country, suggesting a restriction on visitor numbers. And how confident will members of the public be going to large gatherings? Lastly, will Brexit and coronavirus-related travel restrictions impact on international visitor numbers?
