Taking to the Water

Each year a charity event is held in the Lake District for wounded veterans, CMV’s Vicky Turner joined them to find out more

The idea for this initiative came about in 2014 when David Forster, an active North East Military Vehicle Club (NEMVC) member, watched a documentary about the work that the Help For Heroes (H4H) charity does supporting veterans who have suffered injuries or illness as a result of their military service.

David determined to organise an event in support of their work so with other club members, made contact with the charity and the Low Wood Bay Resort and Spa.

The result was that for the past four years a group of mixed service personnel from Phoenix House, the Help the Heroes Recovery Centre, based out of Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, get away to relax, meet others in a similar position and try activities together that they might otherwise not have the chance to. All this is with a view to improving their confidence, reducing feelings of isolation and ultimately improve their health and well being as part of their rehabilitation process.
